Exhibition of the work of Bruno Lebel at the priory of Airaines

Sunday May 11 2008

"If we can bring together the symbols of heaven and earth in our innermost hearts, we can recreate our own Garden of Eden. We become a conscious allegory of eternity."
Bruno LEBEL

Exhibition of sculptures and drawings by Bruno Lebel, 1st Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture

For his exhibition at Airaines, the artist has chosen to show a collection of strange terra cotta forms like imaginary castles from a forgotten world, fortresses rising out of deserts of sand and stone. He quotes the great German mystic Meister Eckhart (1260-1327) and calls them “castles of the soul”. They are solid, even massive, shapes seemingly unmoveable in their stability, challenging the imagination. Here and there are scraps of forgotten writings that float up out of the human past, like a script that was never invented, opening the soul to the abysmal depths of Being.
