Jardins de la Baie de Somme : Herbarium, Fruticetum, Rues Fleuries
why should you come?
The Herbarium, an enclosure surrounded by flint and pebble walls, dominates the medieval city walls. On entering it, one discovers a formidable "orderly" jumble of ancient medieval plants. A garden more botanical than ornamental, which will please the novice as well as the connoisseur!
The Fruticetum offers a contemporary reading of medieval gardens. The colour echoes the "Waide": a precious dyeing plant in the Middle Ages.
The flowery streets of the village form, with the Herbarium and the Fruticetum, "the gardens of the Bay", and make Saint-Valery-sur-Somme a peaceful invitation to stroll.
Tucked away in the old town, this garden will delight the whole family. It's already an adventure, just finding the place: follow arrows through the maze of streets in the medieval town. Once inside, everyone can run/walk around as they please, playing hide-and-seek along the colourful flower-filled paths. Leave the pushchair at the entrance, help toddlers take their first steps and older children recognise different scents! It takes about an hour to go round.
