Visiting Amiens with my disability
Tourism accessible to all
In the heart of the Somme region, Amiens, a city of many facets, is a model of accessibility.
A favorite destination open to as many people as possible. Because being disabled shouldn’t be a barrier to discovery, in 2017 the Picardy capital was awarded the “Destination pour tous” mark, becoming the second city in France to be able to guarantee an optimal welcome for people with visual and motor disabilities. And because that wasn’t enough, it has since been awarded Gold level, confirming its commitment to the other two types of disability: auditory and cognitive.
Whether you’re disabled or not, Amiens opens its arms to you! Whether you’re interested in our built or natural heritage, discover some of these adapted sites that will help you make the most of your visit.
A colorful natural heritage
One of France’s greenest cities, Amiens has been awarded the Villes et Villages Fleuris 4-flower label for its astonishing natural wealth. We take you on a tour of the city’s most beautiful spots, which are fully accessible to people with disabilities:
- Parc Saint-Pierre is like our very own Central Park! The city’s green lung, with its wooded areas and picturesque lake, it’s a favorite spot for Amiens residents for all kinds of strolls, picnics and romantic rendezvous. With its paved paths, the park is accessible to all.
- Jardin des Plantes: one of France’s oldest botanical gardens, awarded the “Jardin Remarquable” label in 2013! A veritable plant laboratory and a pleasant place to stroll just a stone’s throw from the town center, it’s free to visit and accessible to all types of disability.
- The Hortillonnages: how could we not mention the city’s natural jewel? While a stroll or bike ride along the towpath offers a magnificent glimpse of these picturesque canals, market gardens and landscaped gardens, there’s nothing like a visit by boat to admire the full splendor of the site. Reservations required, open to all.
- Cimetière Paysager de la Madeleine: one of France’s most beautiful romantic cemeteries. Between these beautiful tree-lined avenues lie the graves of the famous Amiens writer Jules Verne and many notable families. The tour is free and accessible to all, although a companion may be required due to the steep gradients.
Nice, isn’t it? After a breath of fresh air, we take you on a tour of the most emblematic cultural sites in Amiens, a Destination pour Tous city.
“Amiens, the little Venice of the north, will never cease to amaze you with all its green and natural spaces.”
