IN THE FAMOUS “TOWER HOUSE”.
The Verne couple settled in Amiens in 1871. They moved into this house in 1882.
In a way, it’s a symbol of social success in the new Faubourg Henriville, a newly-built middle-class district to the south of Amiens.
The railroad took the place of the old city walls, and an incredible burst of modernity swept through Amiens! As a matter of fact, Jules Verne could see the railroad from his window, and his house was only a stone’s throw away!
This pretty bourgeois house is perfectly in keeping with the standards of the period, starting with the porte cochère… for the coachman’s carriage! Step through the door and you’re plunged back into the 19th century, into the heart of Romanticism.
Jules and Honorine lived in this grand residence for 18 years, until 1900. Today, every room in the house is dedicated to the writer’s life.
A Collection of 30,000 pieces!
Discover objects and documents that belonged to Jules Verne and those close to him.
It’s the incredible Piero Gondolo Della Riva collection, acquired by Amiens Métropole in 2000, which brings together a total of 30,000 pieces, many of which are on display in the house!
In addition to this treasure trove, meet the wacky and sometimes even megalomaniacal world of characters straight out of his “62 Voyages extraordinaires”, during one of the costumed guided tours offered by the house team!
Theatrical guided tours… in the company of Monsieur Verne, please!
Every 2nd Sunday of the month (except July and August), take a guided tour in the company of Jules himself, or one of the characters from his life or works.
“Imagination is in every corner of the House! “

Guide to the home of Jules Verne
“An atmosphere above all else! That’s how the Maison de Jules Verne …. sums up a fascinating plunge into the world of the 19th century. A century of creativity, a century of great discoveries, a century of the rise of modern science, when everything seemed possible for human beings. More than a place of work, this house is, for our team, a daily delight that we seek to share with the public.”

Where to eat well
Nearby
- La Coupole (3 min. walk – near Cirque Jules Verne): Small restaurant with a very friendly ‘Parisian Bistro’ atmosphere. The setting is immediately appealing: La Coupole backs onto the Cirque d’hiver d’Amiens, inaugurated by Jules Verne (!). A regularly updated menu, with modern dishes and top-notch home fries!
- La Brasserie Jules (7-minute walk from the station): An Amiens institution! Cosy, hushed Parisian brasserie decor, discreet, attentive service, gourmet dishes: no false notes for 25 years. We go there especially to enjoy the seafood platters (extra fresh).
- Two other restaurants pay tribute to Jules Verne: l’Odyssée de Jules (near the Glisy aerodrome) and le Voyage de Jules.
