"Martché à Rédries" as we say here!

Réderie is the French word for flea market, brocante, garage sale or jumble sale.

The Picardy expression is martchè à rédries, or flea market. The term réderie is virtually untranslatable: it refers to any object that might attract the attention of a collector. It comes from the verb réder, which means to collect, to be an amateur, to be passionate (generally about things of little value).

It’s almost a form of dream or delirium, which is what the word meant in ancient Picardy… a rédeu is a collector, but the term rarely applies to an art collector! it can also be a bricoleur, but of the best kind, that of genius inventors!
