Long > Abbeville on the Somme Valley cycle route
- 17km
- 12ponts
- 1cluse
Direction Pont-Remy
1st stage
Departure is from the château de Long, a veritable nugget in the heart of the village. Join the towpath on the left bank after crossing the Somme. Pass the lock keeper’s house, now a tourist information office, where you can rent bikes, kayaks and paddles.
As far as Pont-Rémy, the meandering river has a few surprises in store for you: it’s not unusual to see a heron take flight or surprise a moorhen! On the other side of the river, you’ll find small castles and beautiful residences to contemplate without moderation!
Before reaching Pont-Rémy, the route changes banks via a footbridge reserved for pedestrians and cyclists.
From Pont-Rémy to Epagne
2nd stage
A change of bank is once again proposed in the center of the village of Pont-Rémy, near the church. Be careful, as this is a busy road, so follow the signs on the ground!
Then let yourself be carried away by the meandering river and take a look at the architectural heritage on the right bank, which is full of surprises!
Zoom on : Eaucourt-sur-Somme
Take the long way off the cycle route and exit at Eaucourt-sur-Somme. The challenge? Ride up to the mill!
The Moulin d’Eaucourt is a windmill that was restored on the initiative of the village mayor, Henri Sannier. The view over the valley is breathtaking and panoramic, and you can even make out the Baie de Somme.
Just beside the river, discover the Château d’Eaucourt, a fine example of medieval architecture. It’s freely accessible on the right bank of the Somme, ideal for a picnic break along the way!
Unusual
Sleep aboard a Dutch speedboat in Eaucourt-sur-Somme!
With its mill, church, castle, belvedere, restaurant and unusual accommodation, Eaucourt-sur-Somme is an ideal stopover on the river!
Epagne > Abbeville
The home stretch
Here you are on the last few kilometers before arriving in Abbeville, the gateway to the Baie de Somme.
This last section, on the left bank, is undoubtedly the quietest, very natural , with beautiful views of the Somme ponds on one side and a few architectural nuggets on the other. The last few kilometers are spent in Abbeville.
Go to Abbeville and come back by train, or go by train and come back by bike, it’s possible with the Longpré-les-Corps-Saints, Pont-Rémy and Abbeville stations!
Abbeville is a medium-sized town, where you’ll find all the services and shops you need. If you’re looking for accommodation, there’s plenty to choose from. And if you’re traveling with the family, the swimming pool is a real treat, with a 50 m pool that can be opened up, a great slide and a diving pit!
