Péronne > Froissy on the Somme Valley cycle route

From Péronne to Feuillères
First stage
For this route, we suggest departing from the Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne, a must-see in this town in the east of the Somme. From the center of Péronne, join the canal in which the waters of the Canal du Nord and the Somme merge. The route begins on the left bank, on a very slippery stretch, until you reach the point where the two waterways meet.
The towpath, with its stabilized sand surface, leads to theSormont lock, which marks the real entrance to the Somme canals!
If you’re on a mountain bike, you can continue your journey along the left bank towpath as far as Feuillères, where the path is very smooth even for children.
Feuillères > Frieze > Eclusier-Vaux
Second stage
This is without doubt the wildest part of the route. The entire surface has been resurfaced in 2019 up to the upper Frise lock. We recommend a short stop at the interpretation table, next to which is a lovely picnic area.
The route continues to the lower Frise lock, then on to Eclusier-Vaux on the road that runs alongside the Somme below a place commonly known as“La Montagne de Frise“. The walk up to this viewpoint is well worth the detour!
Zoom in on the Frise lookout
The Frise lookout can be reached from the road halfway between the lower Frise lock and Cappy. Don’t hesitate to put down your bike and climb through the trees to admire the view over the Somme valley. A different view of the river awaits you!
Frise, a village with its feet in the water and its head in the clouds! An incredible view over the ponds of an ideal valley: the Somme Valley…
Eclusier-Vaux > Cappy > Froissy
Third stage
The route ends with a very sporty section between Eclusier-Vaux and Cappy. The path is grassy and not at all rolling. If you’ve got a mountain bike, it’s doable, but if not, prefer our alternative route via Suzanne, which is also signposted!
Arriving in Cappy, follow the Véloroute Vallée de Somme signposts for a rolling towpath at the lock, all the way to Froissy, a small hamlet in La-Neuville-les-Bray!
Froissy
Stopover village
In Froissy, we suggest you visit the museum of the P’tit train de la Haute Somme, which you’ll pass by on your arrival. But also the café called La Halte Gourmande, set up in the heart of the lock-keeper’s house. Here, you can enjoy hot and cold drinks, as well as a simple à la carte menu to delight children of all ages!
