The little sister

of the Bay of the Somme

The Somme is best known for its world-famous Baie de Somme, but today we’re taking you on a trip to meet its less famous but no less seductive little sister, the Baie d’Authie!

The Baie d’Authie forms the natural border between the Somme and Pas de Calais departments, between Fort-Mahon-Plage to the south and Berck-sur-Mer to the north.

It may be smaller than the Baie de Somme, but in a small area it offers an incredible concentration of environments.

There’s one sight you won’t want to miss in the Baie d’Authie in summer: the sea lilac covers the mollières of the Baie d’Authie with a crimson carpet from July to October. Please note that harvesting for commercial purposes is prohibited.

Family picking is permitted, but in reasonable quantities (no more than one small bouquet per person).

Before leaving the bay, discover the magnificent dune massif, classified as a natural site.

A small, easy, signposted hiking trail takes you on a short 1-hour, 2.5 km tour of the pannes, wet depressions with exceptional biodiversity (aquatic mint, green tree frog…).

“La Dune de l’Authie”, departure from the Authie parking lot.
