Grand Tour du Marquenterre

Rendezvous in a nature reserve

Today we’re taking you on a timeless hike through wild, unexplored landscapes. Head north of the Bay of the Somme, on land classified as a nature reserve, for a grand tour of Marquenterre.

From Saint-Quentin-en-Tourmont, you’ll have to follow the access path to the sea, which plunges you into the heart of the dunes (“crocs” in Picardy, from which this hiking trail takes its name), amid thorny shrubs and pine trees.

Let’s be honest, this is a fairly strenuous walk. You’re going to strain your calves as you make your way through the sand, but after around 3-4 km, the reward is at the end of the road: a huge, wild beach, a feeling of being at the end of the world.

You can see the long wooden poles used to raise the Bouchot mussels. From the Banc de l’ilette to the bird park, you’re in the heart of the Baie de Somme, one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

Pause for a moment to observe Le Crotoy, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, Cayeux-sur-Mer and Le Hourdel in the distance.

A superb hike that takes on a whole new dimension when accompanied by our donkeys, true travel companions. Breathtakingly splendid landscapes in a wild, unspoilt setting!

A picnic lunch in the middle of the walk is welcome, in the very privileged setting of the Baie de Somme National Nature Reserve.
