You’ll love exploring the Baie de Somme with your dog! The Somme offers 70km of coastline and a wide variety of landscapes. And good news: there are plenty of dog-friendly beaches in the Somme!
Further north, Fort-Mahon-plage and its miles of wild sandy beaches await you and your pet. And to the south, let yourself be seduced by the imposing cliffs of Ault or the charm of seaside resorts such as Cayeux-sur-Mer, with its pebble beach and famous “chemin des planches”.
Put on your swimsuit or raincoat depending on the season, slip your dog’s Frisbee into your bag and think about his water bowl!
THE BEACHES
to the north
Fort-Mahon: dogs are allowed on the beach outside surveillance zones / residential areas, along the esplanade and Boulevard Maritime, and must be kept on a leash.
Quend-Plage: dogs are only allowed on the beach outside the area supervised by lifeguards.
Saint Quentin en Tourmont: the beach is accessible via a long footpath. On the other hand, dogs are not allowed , even on a leash, in the Parc du Marquenterre, which is classified as a nature reserve.
La Maye: at the parking lot, turn left, where dogs are allowed on a leash. On the right is the Baie de Somme nature reserve, where dogs are prohibited.
Le Crotoy Le Crotoy : dogs are prohibited on the beach in front of the built-up front from April 1 to October 31. They are allowed on a leash on the beach from the allée de la grève to the entrance to the Baie de Somme National Nature Reserve at Plage de la Maye. From November 11 to March 31, they are permitted on all beaches except those of the Nature Reserve.
to the south
Saint Valery sur somme : dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash, but not on the coastal path.
Brighton: dogs are allowed.
La Mollière: dogs are allowed.
Cayeux surMer: dogs are allowed on a leash on the boardwalk. Leashed dogs are permitted outside the supervised swimming area.
Ault, Onival: dogs are only allowed on the esplanade and must be kept on a leash. Want to extend your walk? Take the La Motte, Les Huttes and La Falaise trails.
Mers-les-Bains: dogs are only allowed on the esplanade and on a lead.
As a reminder
Dog faeces are forbidden in public places. Remember to bring special bags to collect your dog’s droppings and dispose of them in the garbage cans provided.
Some towns, such as Le Crotoy, offer free “biodegradable poop bags”, but if you’re out and about in the countryside, we suggest you bring your own or contact your nearest town hall. Don’t hesitate to enquire at tourist offices, some of which distribute cleanliness bags and paper poop clips.

Numerous walks await you in the Baie de Somme and more generally in the département.
If you prefer a cool walk with your dog in a pond, we recommend :
- Étangs de Long: the marshes of Longpré, where beautiful walks between ponds, reedbeds, meadows and wooded marshes await you.
- Étangs de la Barette and Falaise Sainte Colette in Corbie: two landscaped trails await you here.
- Réserve de l’Etang Saint-Ladre à Boves: just outside Amiens, you and your dog can stroll along the water’s edge, following the signposts.
- Étangs de Cléry-sur-Somme: 2.5km of walks await you in this protected natural site.
- Le Marais des Cavins à Bourdon: 3km of landscaped trails with interpretation tables along the way.
